So why use a GDA?

Glucose or glycogen re-synthesis occurs during the recovery phase following intense exercise, when we are replacing 'muscle fuel stores' (glycogen) that are tapped into for high volume, high intensity and prolonged exercise.

It has long been a staple that post workout meals are tweaked to facilitate the speed at which this is achieved, the post-workout meal has been debated widely, but one thing is always agreed, the more frequently your train, the more important it becomes.

The addition of glucose to post workout meals increases glucose concentration of muscle tissue in the four hours following training by around 20% (0,7mmol a min to 0,9 mmol a min). The rate at which we can re-synthesise glycogen is one of several limiting factors for recovery, especially for those athletes performing multiple sessions of training per day, be they weight lifting and/or cardio.

Therefore, improving the ability of the body to clear ingested glucose and re-synthesise muscle glucose quickly, would lead to faster recovery and male for a shorter timespan in which insulin needs to stay elevated.
